Scarlett Johansson, American actress (born on November 22, 1985 New York City New York) is well-known for her acting abilities across genres ranging from period dramas to thrillers to action films. Johansson was born in New York City, and was raised by an father who was an architect and her mother, a producer. Hunter was twin to the younger sibling. As a young girl of just 7 an old, the actress started auditioning for television commercials. In a brief time span, she began studying with the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. Then, in the following years, the Professional Children's School was opened in Manhattan. When she was eight, she appeared alongside Ethan Hawke in the Off-Broadway production Sophistry and, at the age of nine she made her debut in film as Rob Reiner's North (1994). Johansson subsequently starred as a character in Just Cause (1995), but her first break was in the form of Manny & Lo a coming of age film about sisters running away. The Horse Whisperer (2000), in which she played the role of a teenage girl who has a deformity due to an accident garnered an acclaim from critics. Then in Ghost World 2001 (as the teenager who is a cynical outcast Rebecca), Johansson gained the attention of a whole new generation.
